Working principle
[] Cache memory is usually composed of high-speed memory, associative memory, and replacement logic circuits and corresponding control circuits. In a computer system with a cache memory, the address used by the central processor to access the main memory is divided into three fields: row number, column number and group address. Therefore, the main memory is logically divided into several rows, and each row is divided into several memory unit groups, each group containing several or dozens of words. High-speed memory is also divided accordingly into rows and columns of memory cell groups. They have the same number of columns and the same group size, but the number of rows of high-speed memory is much less than that of main memory.
Associative memory is used for address association and has the same number of rows and columns of storage units as high-speed memory. When a storage unit group of a certain row in a certain column of the main memory is transferred to an empty storage unit group of the same column of the high-speed memory, the storage unit corresponding to the association memory records the row number of the transferred storage unit group in the main memory.
