Pharmacological effects
Flavmycin is a phosphorylated polysaccharide antibiotic. Its antibacterial mechanism is by interfering with the cell wall. The biosynthesis of the structural substance peptidoglycan thereby inhibits the reproduction of bacteria. The growth-promoting principle of flavomycin may be that it can improve the digestion of energy and protein in feed, thin the intestinal wall, thereby improving the absorption of nutrients, and effectively maintain the balance of intestinal flora and the stability of rumen values. Bacteria are not prone to develop resistance to flavomycin, and flavinycin is not prone to cross-resistance with other antibiotics. Flavomycin has a narrow antibacterial spectrum and is mainly effective against Gram-positive bacteria and is resistant to other antibiotic-resistant strains. It is also effective against Gram-positive bacteria, but is very weak against Gram-negative bacteria.
Pharmacokinetics Flavomycin is almost not absorbed by the digestive tract after oral administration, and is almost entirely excreted in the feces. Broilers were fed with twice the recommended dose. Laying hens were fed with twice the recommended dose. Pigs and beef cattle were fed with twice the recommended dose. After slaughter, no flavinycin residue was detected in the blood, muscles, liver, kidneys, skin, fat, and eggs. Cattle were fed with twice the recommended dose daily. No residue was detected in milk after days of continuous administration of the dose.
Toxicology Flavomycin has extremely low toxicity. Oral administration to male mice is greater than intraperitoneal injection.
Drug Interactions Flavomycin does not have antagonistic effects with other antibiotics and can be used in conjunction with the sulfa drugs tiamulin, erythromycin, lincomycin and ionophore anticoccidia drugs.
