Multiple submissions for one manuscript refer to the same author or different authors from the same research group. Without the knowledge of journal editors and reviewers, attempts to or have published papers with the same or similar content in two or more journals at the same time or one after another is also known internationally as repeated redundant publication or self-plagiarism.
Typically, repeated publications of the same research results are rare. What is more common is that the author publishes multiple papers on a larger topic. This approach is reasonable if there is no duplication of material and the issues discussed in each paper are distinct. Duplicate publications often occur in the gray area between the two extremes, such as studies on the same issue on different groups of patients, or reports on the same group of patients with different focuses.
Multiple submission of one manuscript is a behavior severely criticized by the scientific community because it unnecessarily wastes journal space and the time of editors and reviewers, has a negative impact on the reputation of the relevant journals, and disrupts the establishment of a system based on the publication of scientific results.
