在服务提供规范中，对服务提供特性的要求可以分为四个层次：
1、服务提供的过程必须依据顾客不能经常观察到的，但又直接影响服务业绩的特性加以规定。这显然与服务需求必须有可以观察到的和需经顾客评价的特性加以规定的要求有很大的不同，但对服务特性和服务提供特性本身而言又是一致的。
2、服务提供特性有些事可以定量描述的，如时间、数量、人员等，而有些则是定性描述的，如卫生、可信性、保密性等。
3、在服务提供特性中，定量描述的可以用仪器和感官进行测定它们的量值，而对定性描述的，只能通过比较，用等级、评分来表示。
4、对每一项服务提供特性都必须制定验收标准，以利于有效的质量控制。
