In order to accurately test these receivers it is important to understand the adverse effects on the receiver caused by incidental phase noise from the generator used to test sensitivity and selectivity. Digital techniques such as these employ phase modulation techniques so any additional phase noise from the generator may lead to erroneous measurements, especially when bit error rate calculations are used to determine the receiver's data sensitivity. "It gives test engineers and technicians confidence that the test system is not inducing errors in their measurements even when there is excessive phase noise," said Director of Product Marketing for Aeroflex Radio Test Systems.
