The mixer is made of materials whether it is a top-mounted mixer or a side-mounted mixer. The transmission shaft (inner shaft) and impeller are usually covered with rubber to prevent wear and corrosion. In power plant desulfurization systems and power plant desulfurization processes, either natural rubber or chloroprene rubber can be used. For boilers with mixed combustion of oil and coal, there may be oil scale in the system. Therefore, natural rubber cannot be used. At this time, the effect of using leaded chloroprene will be significantly better than that of chloroprene.
br/ The rubber-covered agitator drive shaft and impeller are usually made of carbon steel. In some situations, high-strength low-alloy steel may be required, especially for some side-mounted mixers due to their large mass. And the use of cantilever support can easily cause the drive shaft to bend.

br/ The side-mounted agitator drive shaft and propeller impeller installed on the wall of the tank are usually made of carbon steel with a rubber surface or directly made of alloy materials. The selection method of alloy materials is basically the same as that of pool tank materials, but the requirements for the wear resistance of the materials are higher.

br/ Another factor that must be considered is the metal fatigue problem caused by the rotational motion of the side-mounted mixer drive shaft. Due to the cantilever mass of the impeller, the drive bearing of the side-mounted mixer is subject to a bending stress. Austenitic steels with low carbon content cannot be used as materials for manufacturing drive shafts due to their poor resistance to rotational bending fatigue. In some special occasions, high-strength stainless steel may be required.

br/ The good mixer impeller design and installation position mentioned above need to be verified through tests or actual operating results. Top-mounted agitators should use heavy-duty transmission shafts and bearings, and the driving device should adopt a sleeve-type structure. Side-mounted agitators should also use heavy-duty designed transmission shafts and gears, and mechanical seal issues should be considered.
