When the supply voltage is switched off, incremental rotary encoders essentially only measure changes in the starting position. If the encoder uses a separate signal to output zero index, the position needs to be detected by normal operation. Magnetic sensors operate completely wear-free and require no maintenance and provide model number, signal or speed signals. Measurement resolution is achieved in increments per revolution.
Incremental encoders provide precise measurement values even in the presence of fluctuating ambient temperature and humidity, severe vibrations and condensation. But for this, some additional product attributes must be added, such as protective painting, casting or condensation drains. These special structural forms are particularly suitable for rotational speed measurement of wind power generation equipment or speed measurement of rail vehicles. Special structures with high shaft loads, with rectangular flanges or non-rotatable couplings, are developed at the customer's request.
