Non-destructive testing methods used for quality inspection of forgings generally include magnetic particle testing, penetrant testing, eddy current testing, ultrasonic testing, etc. Magnetic particle inspection is widely used to inspect the surface or near-surface defects of ferromagnetic metal or alloy forgings, such as cracks, hair lines, white spots, non-metallic inclusions, layered folds, carbides or ferrite bands, etc. This method is only applicable to the inspection of forgings made of ferromagnetic materials. This method is not suitable for forgings made of austenitic steel. In addition to inspecting magnetic material forgings, the penetrant inspection method can also inspect the surface defects of non-ferromagnetic material forgings, such as cracks, loose folds, etc. It is generally only used to inspect the surface defects of non-ferromagnetic material forgings and cannot detect defects hidden below the surface. The eddy current inspection method is used to inspect surface or near-surface defects of conductive materials.
Ultrasonic inspection method is used to detect internal defects of forgings, such as shrinkage holes, white spots, cracks, slag inclusions, etc. Although this method is convenient, fast and economical to operate, it is difficult to accurately determine the nature of the defects.
With the development of non-destructive testing technology, new non-destructive testing methods such as vibroacoustic method, acoustic emission method and laser holography method have emerged. The emergence of these new methods and their application in forging inspection will definitely improve the quality of forgings. The level of inspection has been greatly improved.
It is worth mentioning that although the accuracy of forging quality inspection results depends on correct test methods and testing technology, it also depends on correct analysis and judgment. Only correct test methods without accurate analysis and judgment will not lead to appropriate conclusions. Therefore, the analysis of forging quality is actually the comprehensive application of various testing methods and the comprehensive analysis of various test results. For large and complex forgings, problems that arise cannot simply rely on a certain method. From this point of view, it can be said that various testing methods are used in The analysis process is an organic collaboration of various complementary test methods and a comprehensive analysis of the respective test results to draw correct conclusions. At the same time, for the purpose of quality analysis of forgings, in addition to correct inspections, necessary process tests should be conducted to find out the real causes of quality problems and propose perfect improvement measures and prevention countermeasures.
The existence of forging defects may affect the processing quality or processing quality of subsequent processes, and may seriously affect the performance and use of forgings or even greatly reduce the service life of the finished product and endanger safety. Therefore, in order to ensure or improve the quality of forgings, in addition to strengthening quality control in the process and taking corresponding measures to prevent the occurrence of forging defects, necessary quality inspections should also be carried out to prevent any adverse effects on subsequent processes (such as heat treatment, surface treatment, cold processing) and performance. The defective forgings flow into subsequent processes. After quality inspection, remedial measures can be taken to make the forged parts meet the technical standards or usage requirements based on the nature of the defects and the extent of their impact on use. Therefore, in a sense, forging quality inspection is on the one hand to check the quality of finished forgings and on the other hand to point out the direction for improvement of the forging process to ensure that the quality of forgings meets the requirements of forging technical standards and meets the requirements of design, processing and use.
