In addition to the shortage of natural gas supply, backward infrastructure investment is becoming a bottleneck in the development of Mexico's power industry. According to statistics, nearly half of Mexico's thermal power generation equipment is at least 10 years old. The equipment is obsolete and has insufficient operating capabilities. In the future, a large amount of money will be invested in the maintenance and capacity expansion of the power transmission and distribution network.
According to a report provided by the Mexican Ministry of Energy, in order to meet the needs of the average annual growth in electricity consumption in Mexico over the next ten years, Mexico’s investment in the power sector will reach 100 million pesos (approximately 100 million U.S. dollars) in the next ten years, of which the funds will be used. For the construction of power stations, for the construction of transmission network infrastructure, for the construction of distribution networks, for maintenance projects, and for other budgeted investment projects.
