Quicklime
Appearance is white or gray-brown, amorphous, absorbs water and carbon dioxide in the air. Calcium oxide reacts with water to form calcium hydroxide and releases heat. Soluble in acid water, insoluble in alcohol. It is an inorganic alkaline corrosive product and has a national hazardous code number.
Quick lime is a commonly used desiccant for removing water vapor by chemical absorption. [] It is also used in steel, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, desiccants, tanning, and alcohol dehydration. Quicklime generally contains overfired lime, and overfired lime slakes slowly. If slaking occurs after the lime slurry has hardened, it will cause bulging and cracking due to the expansion caused by slaking. In order to eliminate the hazards of overfired lime, the lime should be aged for about a week after slaking.
Quicklime will react chemically with water, and then it will be immediately heated to a high temperature exceeding ℃.
