To insert teeth, holes are drilled into the ring gear on the outer cone surface of the gear.
To insert carbide teeth of different sizes and shapes, steel teeth are milled directly from the gear cone. The rows of teeth of the three cones on the drill bit mesh with each other, which can effectively and comprehensively break the bottom hole rock without repetition and prevent the teeth from getting muddy. The shape, size, number, and length of the teeth depend on the hardness of the formation being drilled. The softer the formation, the larger, more pointed, and less arranged the teeth will be. On the contrary, the harder the stratum is, the smaller, shorter and more numerous the teeth will be. The hardness and wear resistance of cemented carbide teeth are higher than that of steel teeth, and their service life is longer than that of steel teeth. Especially, the effect is better when breaking abrasive hard formations. It has a wide range of applicable formations, large footage, and high ROP, and has been widely used in oil drilling.
There are currently more than ten tooth shapes commonly used for cemented carbide teeth, such as spherical, pointed oval, conical,
wedge-shaped, spoon-shaped, tapered spoon-shaped, off-top spoon-shaped, edge wedge-shaped, Flat head shape etc. According to the different crushing mechanisms of different strata and different lithologies, various drill bits use different tooth shapes.
