Other names for American cherry wood include American black cherry. Mainly distributed in various regions of the eastern United States, the main commercial forests are located in Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and New York. The color of the heartwood of cherry wood ranges from bright red to brownish-red and becomes darker after exposure to the sun. On the contrary, its white wood is milky white. Cherry wood has a fine, even, straight-grained texture that is smooth and naturally contains brown core spots and tiny gum pockets.
Processing properties Cherry wood is easy to machine and fix with nails and glue. It has good fixing properties and produces an excellent smooth surface after sanding, staining and polishing. Cherry wood dries fairly quickly and shrinks quite a bit when drying, but its dimensions are stable after drying.
Physical properties Cherry wood has medium density, good wood bending properties, low rigidity, medium strength and vibration resistance.
Durability Cherry wood is a wood with heartwood that resists decay. Its white wood will be eaten by common furniture beetles and has a moderate resistance to the penetration of preservative treatments.
