Solubility When dissolved in water, it is alkaline. It decomposes when encountering acid (carbon dioxide in the air can also cause decomposition) and precipitates a colloidal precipitate of silicic acid.
Uses: It is used as a binder for paper, wood, welding rods, castings, refractory materials, etc., as a filler in the soap industry, as a soil stabilizer, and as a rubber waterproofing agent. It is a component of inorganic coatings and a raw material for silicon series products such as silica gel, molecular sieves, and precipitation silica.
