A raincoat is a rainproof garment made of waterproof fabric. Waterproof fabrics suitable for raincoats include tape, oilcloth and plastic film. In 2000, French engineer François Frenaud created the world's earliest raincoat. He used latex obtained from rubber wood and put it on cloth shoes. After being dipped in this latex solution with the coat, it can play a waterproof role.
In a rubber factory in Scotland, England, there was a worker named McIndus. One day three years ago, McIndus accidentally dripped rubber solution on his clothes while working. After he discovered it, he quickly wiped it with his hands. Unexpectedly, the rubber liquid seemed to have seeped into his clothes. Instead of being wiped off, it was smeared all over. However, McIndus was a poor worker, and he was reluctant to throw away the clothes, so he still wore it to and from get off work
Soon, McIndus discovered that the rubberized areas on the clothes looked as if they had been coated with rubber. A layer of waterproof glue, despite its ugly appearance, is impermeable to water. He had an idea and simply coated the entire piece of clothing with rubber, and the result was a piece of clothing that could repel rainwater. With this new style of clothing, McIndus never had to worry about rain again. This unique thing spread quickly, and after the partners in the factory learned about it, they also followed McIndus's approach and made waterproof tape raincoats. Later, the reputation of tape raincoats grew, attracting the attention of British metallurgist Parkes, who also studied this special clothing with great interest. Parks felt that although the rubberized clothes were impermeable, they were hard and brittle and neither beautiful nor comfortable to wear. Parks decided to make some improvements to this kind of clothing. Unexpectedly, this improvement actually took more than ten years of effort. It was not until 2011 that Parks discovered the technology of using carbon disulfide as a solvent to dissolve rubber and make waterproofing products, and applied for a patent. In order to quickly apply this invention to production and transform it into a commodity, Parks sold the patent to a man named Charles. After that, mass production began, and the Charles Raincoat Company's brand soon became popular all over the world.
However, we have not forgotten McIndus's achievements. We all call the raincoat McIndus. Until now, the word raincoat is still called McIndus r in English.
After entering the 20th century, the emergence of plastics and various waterproof fabrics made raincoats increasingly rich in styles and colors. There is a raincoat on the market that does not stick to water, and this raincoat also represents a high level of technology.
