玻璃鳞片是生产重防腐涂料、珠光颜料和塑料制品不可缺少的重要原材料，应用于防腐领域，可明显提高涂料的防腐性能，延长物件使用寿命；用来制造珠光颜料，玻璃鳞片珠光颜料的光泽度远远优于天然云母、人工合成云母制作的珠光颜料，并兼有防腐、防紫外线照射的功能；用于塑料领域，可增加塑料制品的强度，防止热塑性塑料制成的精密部件的热变形，提高其空间稳定性。
1 、玻璃鳞片能阻止水蒸汽和化学溶剂对基底物质的侵蚀。衬底或涂层耐化学性的程度随所选用的玻璃原材料不同而变化，由 C- 玻璃组成的玻璃鳞片具有优良的抗化学耐用性。
2 、由于有相对与钢铁、水泥等基底物质较大的伸展系数，所以在热冲击的情况下树脂层容易裂解和脱落，而玻璃鳞片能提成一种热稳定层，因而能防止衬底的裂解和剥落。
3 、耐温性能好。玻璃鳞片衬里的使用其耐热性比同类树脂涂层可提高 20-40 ℃，因此常用于石油输油管道、热水管线、耐热化工装置等。
4 、热胀系数小。
5 、含有玻璃鳞片的涂层比不含玻璃鳞片的环氧或聚酯树脂层硬的多，因此有较高的抗表面磨损性能。
6 、配伍性能好，可以与各种树脂组成防腐涂料
