Working Principle

The membrane stack contains multiple pairs of membrane units. Inside each membrane stack there are two electrodes carrying a voltage, which is the voltage necessary to pass through each membrane stack. The positive electrode carries a positive voltage, the negative electrode carries a negative voltage, and current passes through a membrane unit between the positive electrode and the negative electrode. Any fresh water chamber contains cation resin and anion resin, which is equivalent to a kilometer thick mixed bed. A positive membrane separates the fresh water chamber and the concentrated water chamber toward the cathode, and on the other side, a negative membrane also separates the fresh water chamber and the concentrated water chamber.
The membrane used is very different from the membrane used for reverse osmosis. The membrane used for reverse osmosis allows small particles of molecular pollutants, ions and water to pass through, while the membrane is made of polyphenylene like ion exchange resin. Made of vinyl material, only appropriately charged ions are allowed to pass through, and water basically cannot pass through. The resin is continuously regenerated through water separation.
