The formula composition and curing mechanism of two-component polysulfide sealant
Early polysulfide sealants were generally multi-component with polysulfide rubber, plasticizer, and reinforcing agent as the base rubber and vulcanizing agent. When formulated with a plasticizer to form a vulcanization component, vulcanization accelerators or retarders are usually used to make the third component or even the fourth component, colorants, etc. With the continuous deepening of research, two-component (base rubber and vulcanizing agent) and one-component (containing latent curing agent) sealants have emerged. Single-component products are easy to use, but the process is complex and the quality is difficult to control. The vulcanization speed is slow and the physical and mechanical properties are limited. Therefore, the most commonly used polysulfide sealant is the two-component room temperature curing type. When formulating this type of sealant, polysulfide rubber, plasticizers, reinforcing agents, tackifiers, colorants, etc. are processed into one component, and vulcanizing agents and vulcanization regulators are processed into another component. After the two components are mixed evenly in a specific ratio, they can be used in engineering. After a few hours or days, the sealant can solidify into a rubber-like elastomer that adheres well to the substrate and can expand and contract as the gap size changes.
