D series liquid resistance starter uses aqueous solution of special medium as the resistor. The pole plates are introduced into the specially designed liquid resistor as electrodes and are connected in series to the motor rotor circuit. When the motor is started, a small power servo motor drives the pole plates to move to change the relative position of the pole plates. The liquid resistance (which is connected in series to the rotor circuit) changes steplessly from large to small, so that the motor can start smoothly with low current.
