China's refined oil exports continued to soar in March, a sign that China is transforming into Asia's leading supplier of gasoline and diesel as domestic demand weakens. Analysts have It warned that as China's economic slowdown suppresses oil demand, the domestic fuel supply glut is likely to worsen and last longer than expected.
China's gasoline exports more than doubled to 10,000 tons in March, with diesel mainly used in industrial projects and infrastructure construction, the Hong Kong-based China Customs Statistical Consulting Service Center said on Monday, citing data from China's General Administration of Customs. Exports nearly tripled to 10,000 tons. Analysts say that most of China's refined oil exports flow into Asian markets. The influx of Chinese refined oil products has put refining margins of Asian refineries under tremendous pressure. The main driving force behind China's surge in refined oil exports is a group of small independent refineries.
