Wang Yusuo, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairman of the board of directors of ENN Group, said that coal-to-gas production is an important direction for the clean utilization of coal, especially for replacing scattered coal use that emits serious pollutants. However, since the start of the project demonstration in 2016, problems and controversies such as production fluctuations, low efficiency, environmental pollution, and high water consumption have emerged one after another. Wang Yusuo pointed out in the proposal that there are two basic facts that cannot be ignored. One is the current coal gasification technology. The initial research and development design was for the production of chemicals, such as synthetic ammonia, coal-to-methanol, etc., in gasification Try to avoid generating methane gas during the process. After being used to produce energy, such as coal-to-gas production, although the process has become increasingly mature through experiments, it cannot fundamentally change its basic characteristics of low energy conversion efficiency and high resource consumption. Second, these coal gasification technologies were all developed in early foreign countries. Environmental problems were not prominent at that time, so environmental protection requirements were not considered too much during research and development. As environmental pressure becomes increasingly prominent, the inherent shortcomings of these old technologies have gradually emerged.
Therefore, current research and development technology must study gasification technology for coal gas production. Current science and technology and environmental protection technology can fully support us in making this gasification technology more environmentally friendly. Talking about a domestic coal-to-gas demonstration project, Wang Yusuo said that I think the demonstration project is just to demonstrate whether coal-to-gas can be realized. Coke oven gas methanation technology has been industrialized. Underground gasification technology and catalytic gasification technology have been applied in Pingdingshan and Tangshan. Industrial demonstrations are about to begin. Hydrogenation gasification technology and supercritical water coal gasification technology are currently being developed. It is in pilot testing and is expected to basically reach industrialization by the year. This gasification technology is developed for different types of coal.
