Also known as Tongshen, four-leaf ginseng, four-leaf vegetable, and rice ginseng.
Remarks:
The plant form is a tall perennial herb. The upright lower part of the stem is nearly square with pubescent rows and the nodes are slightly enlarged. Leaves are usually opposite, spatulate or lanceolate. There is a large leaf-like involucre at the end, and there are often sparse hairs on the veins below. Flower Type 2 Flowers born in the involucre at the stem end have large white sepals. The petals have toothed apex and stamens. The ovary has an oval style and is linear. The flowers at the lower part of the stem have small purple sepals that are closed. No flower stamens. Capsule shape. Flowering period ~ month and fruit period ~ month.
Grows under forest on hillside and in rock crevices. Mainly produced in Jiangsu, Shandong and Anhui.
In summer, most of the stems and leaves are withered, dug, washed, removed, and fibrous roots placed in boiling water, slightly blanched, and then dried in the shade or directly in the sun.
Character: Roots are slender and hammer-shaped or slender and slightly curved. Length~diameter.~.
